Other welfare policy

One of the things the Nordic countries have in common is that our societies are based on a strong welfare model. The Nordic welfare model, its challenges and development are central to our work. The perception of what is the responsibility of the state or the public and what is the responsibility of user organisations, associations and individuals has changed over the years and is also expressed differently in the different Nordic countries. The themes we work on change, therefore, but whatever we do, it is always with the aim of strengthening the Nordic welfare model.

Our focus areas

• We work with living conditions for children and young people and we present learning examples and convey and compile research and news about Nordic and international child and youth policy.
• We work to promote active, healthy ageing with the emphasis on the participation of the elderly in urban and community planning, social meeting places and good health on equal terms.
• We coordinate a Nordic network for dementia. The network consists of representatives from authorities, ministries and experts in the field.
• The Nordic Welfare Centre publishes the scientific journal Nordisk välfärdsforskning/Nordic Welfare Research twice a year.
• We work on various welfare technology projects and have produced several publications on welfare technology.

We have also drawn up reports on issues such as sick leave, child poverty, children in foster homes and early interventions for families.
