Webbinarium: Nordic youth – voices on wellbeing
Barn & unga
What were the consequences of the Covid-19 pandemic for children and youth and their wellbeing? We need to learn from the pandemic to handle future crises better to protect children’s and youth’s right to be heard and involved in all matters concerning them. This webinar presents four reports with new research and key learnings.
The Nordic region has strong traditions for promoting the well-being for children, by emphasizing the right to inclusion and participation for all. The Covid-19 pandemic has challenged this. A range of restrictions and measures were implemented across the Nordic region to protect the population during the Covid-19 pandemic. Schools, as well as cultural and recreational activities, were entirely or partially closed for long periods of time and many services related to healthcare, welfare and assistance were less accessible. These arenas are important for children’s and young people’s quality of life and for the fulfilment of their rights. Many children and young people experienced challenges because of the restrictions. Their right to be heard was often neglected or recognised too late.
This Nordic webinar will cover new research and key learnings on the consequences and lessons to be learned from the pandemic, how the Nordic counties handled the Covid-19 pandemic, and the impact of different political measures on children and young people’s right to education, leisure time and participation.
Nordic youth, experts and scientists will share their knowledge and insights into why involvement can make a huge difference during a crisis. You will be given insights into what consequences the pandemic had, and how we can handle a future crisis better. We also dive into some new research on the consequences for young people’s mental health, and the gender differences.
The webinar is a part of a four-year Nordic cooperation project lead by the Nordic Welfare Centre on behalf of the Nordic Council of Ministers. The webinar is arranged in collabaration with NIKK, Nordic information in gender.
