Nordic Study Plan Deafblindness

This Nordic study plan provides a framework for professionals working with deafblindness. The plan has been developed in collaboration with Nordic experts and supports the planning and implementation of national education programs.
The aim of this study plan is to strengthen the common Nordic knowledge base and professional expertise in the field of deafblindness. It encourages dialogue-based learning and the sharing of experiences, and emphasizes the importance of research and evidence-based practice in all education.
The study plan combines and updates two previous plans – one on congenital deafblindness (2016) and one on acquired deafblindness (2017) – and reflects the growing emphasis on interprofessional collaboration. This development was also highlighted by deafblind people at the Nordic Conference on Deafblindness in 2022, which emphasized the need to bridge the gap between different groups.
The purpose of the study plan is to support teachers, course leaders, and education providers in developing high-quality teaching that is inclusive, reflective, and based on lived experience.
