Disability issues
When we add a linguistic value to bodily tactile expressions and recognise tactile languages as natural languages, we are able to communicate linguistically with people with congenital deafblindness.
The webinar is based on the motto if you can see it, you can support it, an idea that runs through our book with the same title: If you can see it, you can support it – a book about tactile language and language development. The webinar gives an introduction to how communication partners can spot and read utterances in the bodily tactile modality as language. It shows how the partner can respond to the tactile speech and support the language development by using different cognitive strategies in the conversations to activate both the tactile working memory and the tactile autobiographical memory.
The webinar is arranged on the 14th of May at 9.00-15.45 (CET – Swedish, Danish and Norwegian time) via the webinar tool Adobe Connect. You do not need to download any applications in order to participate, connecting via your internet browser works fine.
Preparations before the webinar
The webinar is based on the book If you can see it, you can support it. Download or order the book, please find links ahead. To get the most out of the lectures, we strongly recommend you to read the following chapters before the webinar: chapter 2, 4, 5, 7, 9 and 14.

Target group
Professionals in various functions who work with language development in relation to congenital deafblindness and combined sensory impairment. The course is also aimed at sign language interpreters who are interested in interpretation for persons with congenital deafblindness. Parents are welcome to attend.
