Nordic Studies on Alcohol and Drugs (NAD) celebrates its 40 years anniversary with an afternoon webinar on alcohol, drug and gambling policies in the Nordic countries 2023. How can we understand current developments as reflecting the past and safeguarding us for the future?
In 2023 the world looks rather different than in 1983, when the journal Nordic Studies on Alcohol and Drugs was founded. Still, some fundamental questions remain topical: the Nordic countries are still balancing between individual rights and the collective good, between top down and bottom up policy rationales, between seeing substance use and gambling as personal pastime choices and viewing them as a burden of the society.
NAD’s editorial office and editorial board hereby kindly invite all contributors and friends of the journal to participate in an afternoon with a status update of how alcohol, drug and gambling policies are evolving in the Nordic countries. Presenters and commentators include Thomas Karlsson (THL, Finland), Kim Møller (Malmö University, Sweden), Ståle Pallesen (University of Bergen, Norway), Robin Room (Stockholm University, Sweden), Kerstin Stenius (THL, Finland), and Virve Marionneau (University of Helsinki, Finland).
