Ioannis Chatzopoulos (Denmark)
Political scientist with a focus on sport policy. I hold a PhD in Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences (Sport Policy and Management) from Loughborough University (2019). My doctoral research investigated social inclusion projects of ethnic minorities in Denmark through sports through collaborations between local government, sport clubs, civil society organisations and other local stakeholders. I have also received a master’s degree (MA) in Sport, Politics and Society from the University of Warwick, UK (2002), as well as a bachelor’s degree (BA) in Political Science from the University of La Verne, California (2001).
Areas of expertise: I am an independent consultant on sport and integration, collaborating with the Danish sporting NGOs Pannahouse and Street Society in Frederiksberg-Copenhagen on the design and implementation of projects on the integration of migrant youth from Africa and the Middle-East through street football and advising on significant aspects such as organisation-structure, volunteering and partnerships. My skills include policy analysis, qualitative research methods (documentary analysis, interviewing), editing and reporting.
Passion in life: Travelling and learning about the culture, values and history of other countries is one of my major interests. Associating with people of different ethnic and cultural backgrounds widens my horizons and allows me to establish collaborations and friendships that enrich me as an individual.
