Can video games help improve the well-being of refugees?
Immigration & development
The UN Refugee Agency, UNHCR, is offering a two-day workshop in central Helsinki on 21-22 September for refugees and asylum seekers in the area who are interested in creating and designing video games.
Are you a refugee or asylum seeker residing in the Helsinki area? Do you have an interest in video games and partaking in their creation?
The UN Refugee Agency, UNHCR, has arranged a two-day workshop on September 21-22 in central Helsinki.
UNHCR’s Innovation Service intends to investigate the potential of various gaming and digital entertainment options to promote inclusivity and interaction in refugees and asylum seekers. And how games can be helpful to refugees, aiding in the development of language or knowledge skills, for instance, and promoting better integration of refugees into their local communities – or facilitating everyday life.
Throughout the workshop, UNHCR will also request assistance from participants in generating ideas for how to best engage additional refugees and asylum seekers in game development.
Participants will also learn how to work together effectively and receive an introduction to creating games using user interfaces that naturally follow a game structure.
