Kursus: Self-regulation: When emotions and expressions become a challenge

Self-regulation can be difficult for each and every one of us. Imagine the challenges this entails for persons having additional challenges such as visual- and auditive impairment, deafblindness, intellectual disabilities, atypical communication etc. This is a reality many of us meet on a daily basis and we wonder: How can I be of help? Which are the tools available when faced with self-regulatory challenges?

Within the deafblind population, self-regulation difficulties are a common challenge, and take on many variations. When faced with emotions and expressions that are both difficult to understand and interact upon, we need theory and practical knowledge to help us, help them.
This course will take us on this theoretical and practical journey. Sharing experiences is important, and we aim for this course to be interactive and dialogical in its form. Together we stand stronger.

The course will cover themes and issues such as:
Practical approach when dealing with self-harm
Challenging behaviour and/or challenging expressions
Sharing Professional experiences
Case discussion
Supporting strategies
Methods for identifying stress factors leading to interventions

The teoretical foundation is based on the following perspectives:
Deafblind specific
Neuropsychological
Neuropaedagogical
Biological, psychological and social
Dialogical

Form
The course consists of lectures, group discussions, and examples from practice.

Target group
Professionals working with persons who have self-regulatory challenges in combination with additional challenges and/or sensory impairments etc.

When:
5th – 7th of December 2023, lunch to lunch.
Where:
Nordregio, Skeppsholmen, Stockholm, Sweden.
Registration:
Last day for registration: November 21st, 2023.
The number of places is limited, so sign up as soon as possible.

Fee:
The price of the course is 1200 SEK, to be paid upon registration. Lunch is included.
All participants need to book their own hotel and travel. These costs are not included in the courses fee and will be paid in full by the participants themselves.

If you need an interpreter, Sign Language or other, you need to make arrangements for this yourself. But please inform us, so the we can help coordinate.
