The organization of social and welfare services in regions and municipalities, and distance spanning solutions in rural areas are the themes of the Nordic welfare forum 2020. Both themes are central to the Nordic welfare systems and the conference will showcase how to organize welfare services in remote areas and how to further regional development.
The Nordic welfare forum 2020 is hosted by Nordic Welfare Centre, an institution in the Nordic Council of Ministers’ social and health sector. The Nordic welfare forum is bi-annual and was held for the first time in 2018.
This year the event will take place at Malmömässan in Malmö, Sweden, on the 9th of December.
Throughout the Nordic region, an ageing population and depopulation – resulting in sparsely populated areas – raise the question of how welfare services can be delivered in an equal manner to all. Everybody will need health and social care services at some point in their lives. The question is how the countries in the Nordic region can make the services equally accessible to all – regardless of where in the country they live. Therefore, digitalization and distance-spanning solutions in the health- and social sectors are of great importance.
Also, the question of how to recruit educated and experienced staff to rural areas is crucial to the Nordic welfare model. Working in the field of healthcare and care through distance spanning solutions need to be attractive to employees. A simultaneous challenge is how to increase the quality of social services.
The Nordic welfare forum will also launch the special issue of State of the Nordic Region 2020: Social and health care services in rural areas.
