Imagine trying to communicate but constantly being misunderstood, or having your communication ignored. This is the reality for many persons with deafblindness. Communicative expressions can be difficult to read for an untrained eye. This course will give you knowledge and tools to support tactile language development.
Knowledge about language development is continually changing and developing, we learn more and get new insights and perspectives. In this course we place tactile language in a dialogical framework. We assume that humans are languaging right from the start and that language development occurs in a complex interaction between the individual, the people we engage with and the surrounding environment.
There are many ways for communication partners to support and help develop tactile language in dialogue with a person with congenital deafblindness. This course consists of theories, information, tools, video analysis, and practical ideas/tips on how to support and give the best opportunities for language development in a tactile modality, so that the person with congenital deafblindness is recognised as a human being using language. The lectures are based on the book and after a previous course and webinar, we take the content one step further.
The course is directed at professionals, parents and family members of people with deafblindness, and sign language interpreters interested in interpretation for people with congenital deafblindness. If you have participated in courses before in this theme, this course can also give you new insights.
