Kolmas pohjoismais-baltialainen vammaispolitiikkaa ja -käytäntöä käsittelevä kokous: Kriisivalmius ja kriisiviestintä
Vammaiskysymykset
Accessible crisis preparedness and crisis communication are crucial to strengthening the Nordic-Baltic societies' ability to prevent and manage crises and conflicts.
The Nordic-Baltic meeting on disability policy and practice will be held for the third time on 17 and 18 September.
This meeting is organized within the framework of a Nordic Council of Ministers’ Nordic-Baltic Cooperation Project on Social Affairs and Health, and is part of the program for the Swedish Presidency of the Nordic Council of Ministers in 2024.
The meeting aims to establish a platform for cooperation and networking between the Nordic and Baltic countries on disability policy and practice issues. Previous participants have included representatives from the Nordic Disability Council, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania, as well as disability organizations, academia, and authorities.
This year’s theme is crisis preparedness and crisis communication
Effective crisis communication is a vital aspect of crisis preparedness, facilitating communication among stakeholders, the general public, and the media during times of social disruption. Coordinated communication enhances credibility, reduces ambiguity, combats the spread of rumors, and empowers the public to contribute to crisis management efforts.
The principles of human rights apply universally, including to individuals with disabilities. The United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities clarifies how human rights extend to persons with disabilities. Many countries are operationalizing this convention through national action plans and strategies.
The meeting will feature presentations on strategies and practical examples from the Nordic countries, the Baltic states, the EU, and the Red Cross.
Target group for the event: Professionals and policymakers working with crisis preparedness and crisis communication.
