The Nordic region should be the best place to grow old.
We promote the exchange of knowledge and experience on effective and sustainable welfare services for older adults.
The Nordic Welfare Centre contributes to building a socially sustainable and inclusive Nordic region where people can lead good, healthy and independent lives throughout their lives. We work to strengthen the development of age-friendly societies and sustainable welfare solutions for an ageing population.
We gather and disseminate Nordic knowledge, coordinate networks and create forums where research, policy and practice come together. Through development projects, knowledge development and knowledge exchange, we support the development of inclusive environments, social participation and sustainable health and care systems in the Nordic region.
The Nordic region has a rapidly growing proportion of older residents. In some areas, 30 per cent of the population is aged 65 or over. By 2040, one in four people in the Nordic region is expected to be aged 65 or over. At the same time, older people today and in the future are healthier, better educated and live longer than previous generations. These demographic trends present both opportunities and challenges for social planning, working life, healthcare and social care.
