The Nordic material for assessment of functional deafblindness is a practical tool for professionals working to identify and assess combined vision and hearing impairments.

Developed through collaboration between the Nordic Welfare Centre and the Nordic Leadership Forum for Deafblind Issues, the material aims to strengthen a shared Nordic understanding of functional deafblindness and support professionals in making well-founded assessments.

What is the material used for?

The material supports professionals in assessing how combined vision and hearing impairments affect a person’s functioning in everyday life. It provides a framework for understanding functional deafblindness and helps structure the assessment process.

The material includes guidance on relevant medical and personal information, observation points and interview questions, as well as support for making an overall assessment of sensory function in everyday situations.

Who is the material for?

The material is intended for professionals involved in identifying and assessing combined vision and hearing impairments and functional deafblindness. It can be used by professionals from different disciplines as part of a multidisciplinary assessment process.

The material is available in all Nordic languages and in English, giving professionals across the Nordic region access to the same framework, tools and knowledge.
