The Nordic Welfare Centre is conducting a survey of preventive measures against nicotine use among children and young people in the Nordic region, with a particular focus on governance and policy. The aim is to build up a knowledge base to support the development of public health policy in this area. The project also includes activities to disseminate and embed the findings among various target groups, including young people in the Nordic region.
The project builds on the Nordic Welfare Centre’s 2025 report on use of nicotine products by children and young people in the Nordic region. Nordic public health authorities prioritise nicotine prevention as an area where there is a need for a shared knowledge base. Nordic cooperation can provide significant added value, such as incentives and the conditions necessary to develop a joint Nordic strategy for nicotine prevention work among children and young people.
