Observation is used when the person being assessed cannot themself communicate how the senses are used. The method provides insight into functional sensory use through systematic observations in everyday situations. The material includes forms containing indicators for observation, together with supporting texts that elaborate what the individual indicators entail.
The material is developed for the identification of functional deafblindness and does not include mapping of additional consequences of sensory loss. Such evaluations presuppose the use of supplementary assessment tools, for example psychological evaluations or activities-of-daily-living (ADL) mapping.
