Digitalt event: 50 years of Nordic co-operation on disability – History, impact and future visions

nov26

Nordic co-operation in the disability field celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2026. This year also marks 20 years of the adoption of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, CRPD. This digital event highlights the history of the Nordic co-operation and looks towards the future.

We invite authority representatives, disability organisations, practitioners, researchers and anyone interested in disability rights in a Nordic context to take part in the celebration.

Preliminary programme:

Part 1: The development of Nordic co-operation
The importance of establishing the co-operation and a look back on the history.

Part 2: The significance
What has been achieved in 50 years? A look at milestones, the CRPD, key issues where Nordic cooperation has made a difference, the establishment of institutions, networks and cooperation.

Part 3: The future
Thoughts on the next 50 years. What are the key themes and major challenges? A panel discussion with views from various stakeholders will address future visions.

A more detailed programme will be published shortly. The event will be held in English and Scandinavian languages.

The event is broadcast from Handicaporganisationernas Hus in Taastrup, Denmark.
